Old Fort Macleod was established by the Northwest Mounted Police in 1874. The original site was an unfortunate choice when spring floods from Oldman River overflowed forced a move to higher ground in 1878, two and a half miles to the west. Then, in 1993, the fort and town were moved again, this time atop the riverbank where the modern town of Fort Macleod now stands. There is little left to indicate where the old fort actually stood.. : H.B. Chenoweth
