Steveville was the southernmost of the east central ghost towns located on the north bank of the Red Deer River. Its reason for being was to ferry homesteaders across the river heading into the newly opened Hanna district. A ferry, built in 1909, operated until 1971 when a bridge was built a half-mile upriver from the townsite. Steveville never had a large resident population for it was a supply center for the vast homestead country to the north, east, and west. Today, little remains of Steveville but just enough to entice the ghost towner to spend a few hours at the site.. H.B. Chenoweth
