First know as “Jones Settlement” after the town’s first postmaster, Richard Jones, it was later renamed after Queen Victoria’s consort, Prince Albert. The community never grew beyond a church, blacksmith, post office, and the Albert Cheese Company. The population was about 100 in 1886 and 50 in 1908.
