Ghost towns are usually associated with the 1800s, but Grafton Station is a ghost town of the early 20th century. When the farming community converted to raising vegetables, the need arose for a cannery to process the produce. Several were built south of the old town of Grafton where the Canadian Northern Railway had just completed its line from Toronto to Ottawa. That was in 1904. The site was called Grafton Station. Although the tracks were removed in the 1930s, the canning factories operated until the 1950s when they too shut down. One abandoned cannery still stands along with the foundations of another.
