REMAINS: Some of the original homes still stand among the few newer residences in the area
Several early Ontario mill towns went by the name of “Slabtown.” This particular one appeared on the lower reaches of the Beaver River in 1851. By 1865 it had attracted four families and by 1906 contained a chopping mill and a sawmill. By 1919 an alfalfa mill had been added. It continued until sometime after World Was II when it closed.
