COMMENTS: No current residents.The site is located were Highway 49 crosses the Mokelumne River between Butte City and Mokelumne Hill. REMAINS: Mine tailing,and the river that ran through the town.

Big Bar was one of the most important mining camps on the Mokelumne River in 1848.A whaleboat ferry was established there in 1849.The buildings at Big Bar are gone from the flood of 1862. Submitted by: Chris Geigle
