The town of Kennett was a bomming mineing area in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Some of the largest gold producing mines in Northern California were located around the Kennett area. In the late 1930's the U.S. Government decided to build a dam (Shasta Dam) just to the South of Kennet. Because of this the town of Kennett is now under more than 400 feet of water (Shasta Lake). If you visit the area you can still find some mineing remnants in the surrounding foothills, but the town itself is completely gone. Submitted by: Tim Osborn
