NAME: Somersville
COUNTY: Contra Costa

GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Mediteranean
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Somersville Road closed to public (Autos}
COMMENTS: No current living residents, just ghosts of old miners. Short distance south of Nortonville, where a fairly extensive cemetary is with tombstones and some ghostly tales about a ghost that floats over the grave sites.
Contact the East bay parks district. Sommerville and the Nortonville have been turn into parks for contra costa county. Called the Black diamond mines.
REMAINS: Old boarded up mercury mines
Both Nortonville and Somersville were populated during the 1850's as coal mining towns.. Most of the mines are now boarded up because the fire departments of both Pitsburg and Antioch were bombarded with help calls in the 1950's and 60's to rescue people who strayed into the mines and became lost. Both towns are on Somersville. Submitted by: David Raab
