ARRIBA

NAME: Arriba
COUNTY: Lincoln
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Very hot in summer, cold winters with some mild days
BEST TIME TO VISIT: All year, weather permitting
COMMENTS: Arriba, Colorado is right off Interstate 70 at exit 383. It's a semi-ghost town with a declining population, with a population of about 250 in 2000, but fewer than 200 ten years later. About half the housing units appear to be abandoned.
REMAINS: Nearly half of all structures are abandoned.
Arriba is another near-casualty of the Great Depression, the drought of the 1930s and the Dust Bowl. An elderly man who runs a salvage yard on the east end of town (didn't get his name) told me he remembered the desperate years at the end of the disaster and recalled how his father and a few friends kept the town from being completely deserted. There are a lot of friendly people in Arriba. Submitted by: Diddley Squat
