ROGGEN

NAME: Roggen
COUNTY: Weld
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Very hot in summer, cold and windy winters
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Spring, summer, fall
COMMENTS: Roggen appears on your Colorado/Weld County map but is not listed as a ghost town. There are a few residents, but they're outnumbered by abandoned houses in various stages of disrepair.
REMAINS: Motel, gas station, deserted main street, about a dozen abandoned homes and shacks

The website http://www.rockymountainprofiles.com/roggen_colorado.htm lists Roggen as a "ghost town." It's "main street" is a dirt road that runs along side a railroad track. It has a few empty store fronts and a very large abandoned house at the center of town. A motel, also vacant and in poor repair, is at the end of the road. There's an active mill of some kind across the tracks and a few residents. I actually didn't see a single live person in the two hours or so I spent there taking pictures this past summer (July 13th, 2009). But some homes in the old town are obviously inhabited. Most are not. Submitted by: D. Squat
