Originally known as Argenta, Tomichi (Indian for Hot Water) once had a population of 1500 people but a snowslide in 1899 took the entire town away! Tomichi had prospered in the late 1880's but when the panic of 1893 hit, the town almost died. By the end of the century is was experiencing a comeback when the avalanche hit. At that time there were only six people there, and four were killed by the slide. In its heyday, Tomichi had a newspaper called the Tomichi Herald which was first printed on wrapping paper due to a delay in a paper shipment. Submitted by: Ghosttowns.com
