JULIETTE

NAME: Juliette
COUNTY: Monroe
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 7
CLIMATE: Typical Georgia Summer - humid
BEST TIME TO VISIT: All year
COMMENTS: Eat at the Whistle Stop Cafe that was the restaurant in the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes" They have good food and pictures they took during the filming of the movie. You can see the whole town that was in the movie along with the lake and damn. There is also a large mill that is not in the movie but in the town. The town had a few shops in it back in 1995. It may have all closed down by now. Watch the movie before you go. It makes the trip alot more fun. Also visit the Jarrell House Plantation. It is a true plantation that has its own little town. The main house is now a bed and breakfast.
REMAINS: The whole town

I tried to find out about the town, but was not able to. I know that a large mill was the main-stay for the town. When it shut down (probally in the 60's or 70's), the town soon died. Then in the early 90's, Hollywood came to town to town to film "Fried Green Tomatoes".Most of the buildings that are in the movie, are the orginal Main Street. These buildings are still there. The town comes back to life on weekends with tourist, but probally is dying again. Submitted by: Chris Owen
