SHIPLEY

NAME: Shipley
COUNTY: Story
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 5
CLIMATE: Snow in winter, warm and humid in summer
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Summer.
COMMENTS: Located two miles south of Nevada. There are about 10 or so residents in Shipley. There used to be a grain elevator, but it was burned down, so the untrained eye can no longer spot the town from a distance. However, there is one impressive structure remaining, and that is an old brick school. There is one railroad track, but otherwise, there is nothing more to the town.
REMAINS: A few houses, and an old school.
Shipley, in my opinion, just didn't have much luck. It had many disadvantages including location and population. Shipley had the nearby large towns of Nevada and Ames. In fact, it is too close.Because of this, Shipley probably couldn't attract many people to live in it. The only thing that kept it alive probably was the railroad track. The railroad track runs from Des Moines to Minneapolis and only carries a few trains a day. Submitted by: Lara Cady
