The early settlement of Muldoon was another town built to serve mines in the vacinity. In this instance, they were silver mines up Muldoon and Argosy Creeks. It all started in 1881 and lasted only six years. The town had a peak population of about fifteen hundred people with all the buildings of its day; livery stables, stores, saloons, houses and even a hotel. Activity began to deteriorate and in 1887 the smelter was sold at a Sheriff’s auction and that finished the town. Today, only a black slag pile and the remains of a kiln are left.
