Lying on the Salmon River almost due west of North Fork is the fishing resort of Shoup. It wasn't always so. It first was the mining town of Shoup in 1881, named after Idaho's Governor Shoup. If one wants to fish for salmon and explore the many old mills and mines of what once was a thriving gold mining town, Shoup is the place to go. Submitted by Henry Chenowith.
