COLTONVILLE

NAME: Coltonville
COUNTY: DeKalb
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Cold, sometimes snowy winters; warm, humid summers
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Spring to Fall
COMMENTS: To get to the site of Coltonville, take North First Street out of the town of DeKalb; turn right onto Coltonville Road; the village was located on the east bank of the Kishwaukee River where the road curves north.
REMAINS: Nothing; old-time residents maintain that after a heavy rain and "flushing" of the fields there are occasional remnants.
Little is known of the life and death of Coltonville; it was a small farming hamlet, and by the late 19th century had been superceded and overwhelmed by DeKalb and Sycamore. Most contemporary residents of the area have no idea that the hamlet ever existed. Submitted by: Kurt Wenner
