NAME: Tweed
COUNTY: Gove
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Snow in winter with cold and hot in summer
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Dry weather
COMMENTS: There is no buidings left my grandfather used to carry mail from jerome ks to tweed. Neither town is easy to locate and tweed is on grassland about 3 or 4 miles east of monument rocks.
REMAINS: Nothing only where cellars and cisterns were dug
My grandfather died in 1907 so he was carrying mail up to the time he died there was supposed to be three graves near the store but evidently not marked. Not sure what the function of the town was only to supply the homesteaders. It was about a mile from the butterfield overland drive trail and halfway between carlysle stage station and monument stage sta.It followed the smokey hill river also. But the town was about a mile or more from the river and off the traili know of no one who ever lived there. Submitted by: Clinton d. Custer
