COUNTY: Monroe
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Typical Michigan weather, if you don't like it wait a minute, it will change!
BEST TIME TO VISIT: All seasons
COMMENTS: Two miles north of 223 on Sylvania Rd. at corner of School Rd.
REMAINS: Post office and general store still stand, remodeled into duplex. Large farmhouse across blacktoppe road.
Once had large farms in area. Post office ran from February, 1895 until March of 1904. Postmaster John Gulhouse ran a general store, PO and Cheese factory. The town was named for his infant daughter, Gretrude. Until two years ago (1998) the store and PO looked like they did a hundred year ago but the store's falxe front was removed and a new peak installed. A quaint place to visit and reflex on rural life a century ago. Submitted by: Rich Goss
