First named Wallace but was confused with Wallace, ID, so changed to Tagus by railroad townsite officials.

Update: Tagus is a very beautiful little town during the daytime. Sure, at night it seems haunted or possessed, and maybe that point may be well-founded. Several bizarre occurances have taken place in or around Tagus, such as disappearing cars and horses, strange glows coming from inside long-abandoned houses, and the like. The church in Tagus no longer stands -- it was burned to the ground earlier this summer. The official reason for the fire was an electrical problem. The cemetery is still there, of course, and is a sure indication of the history involved in this rural town, whether visited during daylight hours or in gloom of night. Matthew D. Aleshire
