SAN LORENZO. Span. 'St Lawrence'. Ranching community on NM 180, 10 mi E of Santa Rita. Founded in 1714 by Gov. Juan Ignacio Flores Mogollon, in honor of St. Lawrence, third-century deacon, killled for his Christian faith at Rome. He was Spanish born; hence his feast has always been a major one among Spanish peoples. Named by Lorenzo Lopez to commemorate his patronal saint and his own name.
