COMMENTS: One of Billy The Kid's Old Hangouts. While Billy was in Jail in Lincoln Scheduled to be hung Pat Garrett Supposedly came here to collect taxes, or as another version goes he was there getting lumber for Billy's gallows. Great article and White Oaks.
REMAINS: Exchange Bank Building, two story brick schoolhouse and much more.

It got started in 1879 when gold was discovered in the nearby Jicarilla mountains. it dwindled out around the turn of the century because the mines had played out and the railroad had bypassed it.I don't know a whole lot about it other than it's association with Billy The Kid. Studying Billy The Kid and the Lincoln County War are one of my favorite hobbies. There are still quite a few buildings standing, and in the local cemetery lies Susan McSween Barber.(of the Lincoln County War). Submitted by Lucas Speer.
