NAME: Alabama Mining District COUNTY: Elko ROADS: 4WD GRID: 1 CLIMATE: Moderate temperature, cold/snow winter BEST TIME TO VISIT: Summer through Fall |
COMMENTS:
Located 10 miles southeast of Contact. Completely abandoned. REMAINS: Headframes, collapsed buildings, many stone ruins. |
| District was established in 1871 around Blanchard Mountain. Many small mines worked during the next 20 years. Gradually absorbed by the Contact district. As many as 100 lived here at one time and mine ruins, stone cabins, and other interesting fare abound in a six square mile area.
