Cold Creek is one of the many long-lived Newark Valley ranches. The ranch was established in the mid-1870s. In 1879, a post office was installed at the ranch to serve as the mail distribution point for the valley’s ranches. During the mining boom in nearby Joy, Cold Creek was known as Cupperville. A school was active at Cold Creek for many years. The post office closed in 1936 and Cold Creek continues to be an active ranch. Several of the original buildings remain.
