CLIMATE: Hot summer, cool winter.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Anytime.
COMMENTS: Town Dismantled

Scotty’s Junction was nothing more than the turn-off for the road heading to Death Valley and Scotty’s Castle when, in the late 1920s, the Pacific Coast Borax Company built a mill at the junction and constructed a company town called Death Valley Junction. The town did not contain any saloons or dance halls, per the company’s orders. Because of the location, the town and mill virtually closed down during the hot summer months. At its peak, 100 people lived in the town. The Great Depression of 1929 forced the company to fold in the 1930s and the town was dismantled.
