The camp at Glencoe came into existence in 1868 after a group of Overland Stage employees located silver claims. After Glencoe began operations, it began to attract attention. But during the late 1870s and early 1880s, mining activity declined and many residents left. Only 34 residents remained in 1881. Limited activity continued during the years until 1894 when most mines closed after being worked out. By winter, Glencoe was completely abandoned. Only faint ruins and tailings mark the site. .
