NAME: North Manhattan
COUNTY: Nye

GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Hot summer, cool winter.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Anytime.
COMMENTS: Very short lived.
REMAINS: Nothing.

One of the most short-lived mining camps in Nye County was North Manhattan. It formed in early 1905 and abandoned that summer. The camp was high up in Bald Mountain Canyon near some small gold veins. A tent camp of about twenty materialized but the veins played out quickly and the canyon was soon abandoned. From 1917 to 1930 several mining companies conducted operations at the site but to no avail. Only small tailing piles mark the site.
