PINE

NAME: Pine
COUNTY: Eureka
ROADS: 4WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Hot summer, cool winter.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Anytime.
COMMENTS: Interesting country.
REMAINS: Not much.

Most railroad stations are not known for being heavily populated. Not so with Pine Station. It’s population often was above 100, mainly because of the work force needed to produce charcoal for the Eureka smelter. No building of any consequence was ever constructed because a majority of the workers were transients and most lived in tents. Only a few ever built cabins. Only one business was ever opened and it was a combination saloon and store. By the early 1900s, Pine had outlived its usefulness and was relegated to a railroad siding. Nothing remains today.
