POTTS

NAME: Potts
COUNTY: Nye
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Hot summer, cool winter.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Anytime.
COMMENTS: Pretty scenery.
REMAINS: Ranch house.

The Potts ranch earned the reputation as one of the best cattle operations in Nevada. William Potts first organized the ranch in the 1870s and a small settlement grew up around it. At its peak, the Potts family also ran three other ranches. A post office opened in 1898 and closed in 1941. Postmasters were all members of the Potts family. In 1944, not long after the death of George Potts, son of William Potts, the family sold all the ranches. The ranch complex was abandoned many years ago but the remains are most interesting. The ranch house still stands and is in fairly good condition.
