Tonogold was a next-door neighbor of Tonopah in 1914 when gold was discovered there. The first shipment of ore was in July and by September fifty men were working in Tonogold. In October a townsite was platted and 190 lots were put up for sale. The goings on attracted as many as 100 people a day from Tonopah who drove to see this new town. By that time 150 men were working twenty different leases. Despite the flurry of activity the ore values turned out to be poor. The camp folded by the end of the year. Due to its short life, there were no permanent buildings and nothing is there today.
