ANNIE CREEK

NAME: Annie Creek
COUNTY: Lawrence
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 2
CLIMATE: Snow in winter-hot in summer.
BEST TIME TO VISIT:
Summer.
COMMENTS: Much to see!
.
REMAINS: Many original buildings. UPDATE: I recently, September 2011, drove and hiked up the Annie Creek drainage near Lead South Dakota in search of the town. I discovered that it is buried under the tailings of an open pit mine.  I did discover evidence of mining but certainly no town. Mike Sinnwell

Along the banks of Annie Creek can be seen the ruins of the New Reliance Mine. The mine buildings, boarding houses, office building and other structures are in various stages of disrepair but present an interesting sight for the ghost town disciple. The mine produced around $600,000 in gold up to 1916 when operations ceased. Roads to the mine are well marked and are passable in good weather. Submitted by: Henry Chenoweth
