Travare was the original county seat of Roberts County. The county seat was moved to Wilmot in 1868 and then later to Sisseton. After the removal of the county seat, Travare's businesses and population dwindled. Businesses began to relocate and the town eventually died out. The courthouse was moved to Wilmot where it still stands. The hotel in the city is now the house of the Lon Medbery farm located just a 1/2 mile south of the ghost town. Submitted by: Brian Johnson
