QUINTANA

NAME: Quintana
COUNTY: Brazoria
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Seaside Texas hot in summer
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Anytime
COMMENTS: Some residents and a State park at the eastern end of Bryan Beach on the mouth of the Old Brazos River Channel. Great fishing from the jetties, beach and river channel. Follow State Hwy. 36 to FM 523 or FM 523 out of Freeport, Texas, cross over Intracoastal Waterway Bridge, turn left, and follow the paved road to the end. Good birding area there, too.
REMAINS: Nothing historic except gun mounds from WWII.
Established as an active port by the Mexicans and then the Texian pioneers for whom the beach is named. Battered by hurricanes, but still has beachhouses built in the late 1900's. Port activity ended with the rise of upper Velasco and then Freeport further up the Brazos River. Submitted by: Ed Munson
