Calico ghost town is run by the San Bernadino County Parks Department. I have not seen anything of what you mention on our local news. Any such thing would be rather ludicrous and highly unlikely. Calico as a ghost town was restored and largely built as is today as a tourist ghost town by Walter Knott, of Knott's Berry Farm, back in the early 1950s. The Knott family donated the site to San Bernadino County some years ago and the county runs it as a tourist attraction. It's a fun place, but not a true ghost town. Calico was largely built of adobe and some frame shacks. The only original building is the schoolhouse, and even it has been largely rebuilt. To determine if the place is safe and ready for your visit, call the telephone directory services and ask for Calico's number. The local area code for Calico is 760.
