Back in college days at the University of Arizona, some close friends, my roommate, and myself camped in an arroyo near the ghost town of Ruby (SW of Tucson). During the night we clearly heard bells (church type bells) ringing. The next morning on searching the town we found no bells anywhere, especially not in the ruins of the church. We found no other persons, in fact encountered no other humans that day. We did run into a herd of javalinos, who attacked our jeep.
This same phenomena was reported by others I met during my years in Tucson. No one ever had any explanation.
