I am a native of Colorado and you are right there are many to choose from, if you dont mind stopping on the way to s.w. Colorado there are a couple of great one in Park county near Fairplay, niether of which get very many tourists. One is called Montgomery, it sits on a lake and the stamp mill is still fairly intact and there are several buildings on the rim above the lake that is a fairly nice hike, the other is Lake City, it is still parcialy inhabitated but is a great town
