GPS: Garmin or DeLorme?

I have been looking into GPS receivers. There are several mnaufacturers, but it looks to me like the best approach is to get a whole system. Both Garmin and DeLorme offer software that either prints maps, or loads onto a laptop PC and can download data to the GPS unit. Lot os choices, very cool, but also confusing since there is so much. Has anyone ever reviewed these devices/systems? Any experience with them?
