: : I plan to buy a good metal detector. Been considering Whites,
: : and Garrett's. Both have digital and non digital.
: : What I want it for is both looking for coins and looking
: : for barried coins in jars/cans/tinboxes ect. around old farm
: : places and such.
: : Which one is the very best for this kind of serious work?
: : I want the best for my money.
: I would suggest you go with the Whites. Better quality, better R&D department, broader dealer base and support. Also would suggest trying a mid-range first like the IDX or 6000 DI Pro. There is a shorter learning curve, quicker operator changes, less expensive, and yet still has good depth and discrimination.
digger bob: would like to travel to the southwest this summer with 8 of my high school students and explore some ghost towns. would like to let them pan for gold and do some metal detecting where appropriate. any suggestions on where to start? how about a guide in the area?
