Ghost towners visiting Etzikom should spend several days in the area to visit the neighboring sites of Pakowki, Orion, Manyberries, Bingham, and Nemiskam. Each had good years but more bad years than good. The Canadian and Pacific Railroad began to push through the southeast sector of Alberta in 1914. The CPR created a site and named it Etzikom. Once a favorite hunting ground of Crow and Blackfoot Indians, the area still yields arrowheads and other paraphernalia to amateur and professional artifact hunters. Etzikom shared the fate of neighboring villages. The 1918 influenza epidemic killed many of its residents. This was followed by drought, blizzards, dust storms, rabbit and grasshopper plagues. One by one, its businesses closed and people moved elsewhere and left Etzikom to its ghosts. H.B. Chenoweth
