The most extensive hydro settlement ever to built by the Ontario Hydro Electric Power Commission. Established around 1930, a hydro dam was first built and then many remained to operate it afterwards. The town was extensive counting numerous businesse, homes, schools, a post office (1930-82,1983-1990), municipall offices, recreation centre, and a station on the ONR. Its opulation averaged a 100 residents though some years it swelled to 1500. The village was almost totally abandonned by 1982. A few residents stayed, and hydro maintained some buildings for employees. In 1987 they were merely 25. Today there are no permanent residents on the site.It is thought that a second townsite named Abitibi Canyon was set up from 1928-31 for construction crews and situated right at the dam.
