REMAINS: Today, Orchardville is not a complete ghost town although much of its earliest functions have ceased. The mill has survived and there is much for the enthusiast to appreciate.
Originally known as Normanby, Orchardville developed as a stopping place on the Garafraxa Road when a John Orchard bought the first parcel of land and opened a tavern. He divided his land into village lots and by 1865had attracted a tannery, two stores, a cooper and carpenter, and a church. There was also a blacksmith and a large general store. Later came a gristmill and several sawmills. The town grew to include three hotels, two churches and a school, and, at one time, a telephone office.
