PORT BRITAIN

NAME: Port Britain
COUNTY: former Durham County
ROADS: 4WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Snow in Winter
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Any Season

COMMENTS: There are only 2 homes remaining that are occupied. Take Lakeshore west from Port Hope Ontario along Lake Ontario.
REMAINS: Church (1860), school (1899), cemetery, boarded up homes and shacks.

Port Britain is a true ghost town in every sense of the word. It is just west of semi-ghost town, Wesleyville, Ontario in the Town of Port Hope, Ontario. Located on Lake Ontario, this former community is noted for its abandoned church (built 1860), its cemetery, its abandoned school house (built 1899) and its Ontario Hydro power plant (which was never put into service).
