Pioneer's post office was established April 24, 1882 and discontinued September 4, 1885. The silver mines responsible for Pioneer were located in 1877. There was a school, brewery, bank, hotel, general store, sawmill, an extensive reduction works, and about 400 people at Pioneer. The 20 stamp mill was destroyed by fire in 1887 and the company that owned the mine went bankrupt. Today the site is a current ranch site.
