Not now nor was it ever a ghost town. Boulder is included here because it housed the first school house in Colorado. It opened in 1860 and was the forerunner of what was to become the educational center of the state of Colorado. But in past years it served as a gateway to one of the richest mineral sections of the state. It was, and still is, a supply center for the hills behind it. In turn, the hills shipped more than 35 million dollars worth of gold, silver, lead, copper and several millions in tungsten. Some of the mines are still producing and uranium has been added in recent years to the impressive list of minerals that still pass through Boulder. Submitted by Henry Chenoweth.
