HOOPER

NAME: Hooper

ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 8
CLIMATE: Cold winter with snow, cool summer
BEST TIME TO VISIT:
Summer
COMMENTS: About 50 residents.
REMAINS: A few original buildings.
The town is an oddity. Once a busy railroad and trading town, it dwindled almost overnight when the railroad stopped running to Hooper. The population fell below 100 persons and most of those left one by one over the years. A few years ago, the female population (those that were left) decided to put a stop to the exodus. The male population (those that were left) agreed. Today, there is but one salaried position-the clerk-recorder, which pays five dollars a year. As yet, there hasn't been any appreciable growth but the population has remained constant at about fifty residents. Submitted by Henry Chenoweth.
