Lake Fern was a small town on the lake of the same name. The community began around 1900 as a citrus community. Pictoral records show the existence of a large school called the Lake Fern School. The site was on the west side of the road at the intersection of Lutz-Lake Fern Road and 587 within an old citrus grove. This large school serviced the area for many years. It was destroyed by fire in 1963. Unfortunately the old grove area is currently for sale and soon will be a shopping center or housing development. Submitted by: Mike Woodfin
