Waiakea, Hawaii is not a ghost town. It is a large town with a population of approx.15,000. The town that is spoken about was actually named Shumachi. Waiakia was built around where Shumachi was. The county government decided to not allow anything to be built where Shumachi was located due to Shumachi was destroyed during the 1946 tzunami. The same area was struck again by a tzunami in 1960. Good thing that nobody could rebuild there. Now the area where Shumachi was is a State park. I live and work in Waiakea .I can throw a rock and it will land where Shumachi was. Submitted by Tony.
