ATLANTA

NAME: Atlanta
COUNTY: Elmore
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 6
CLIMATE: Cool winter/snow and summer.
BEST TIME TO VISIT:
Fall, Spring, Summer.
COMMENTS: Summer residents.
REMAINS: A few remnants

The mines around Atlanta were discovered in 1864 and proved to be of the rich variety. Located on the Middle Fork of the Boise River, access was only by steep mountain trails until a wagon road to Rocky Bar was completed. Mining continued into the late 1930s and today the town still has a small population. Because there are several campgrounds nearby and good fishing in the area, the town entertains a number of summer visitors. Some of the original buildings, although weathered, make for an interesting visit.
