Burgdorf was not a mining camp. Rather, it was a “Resort” where people came to enjoy the benefits of its natural hot springs. Fritz and Jeanette Burgdorf were a hospitable and it was Fritz who first saw the advantages of the springs. He secured a deed to the property in 1870, built a hotel and way station. The hotel served as a social gathering place for parties and celebrations during the holidays. A post office was opened in 1903. Today, the hotel is virtually a museum with its rustic native furniture.
