NONESUCH

NAME: Nonesuch
COUNTY: Ontonagon
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Cold, snowy winters; warm summers
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Late Spring to early Fall
COMMENTS: Nonesuch is today located within the boundaries of the Porcupine Mountains State Park (on the shores of Lake Superior, west of Silver City on M-107.
REMAINS: Unknown; access was not possible.
Nonesuch was first settled in 1866, and its post office opened in 1876. It was never very large (fewer than 50), its economy was based on timber and mining (but it did have a school and stores). The post office closed in 1887. It would appear the State of Michigan bought the townsite; it is down a very rough road, and access was not permitted in 1995. Submitted by: Kurt Wenner
