REMAINS: many abandon homes a few are still occupied
In 1962 they U.S. Army Corps of Engineers were going to dam up the area and flood it to make a lake the size of lake Michigan. Government bought the homes and had the people move out. Environmentalist came in and checked it out and they said too much siesmic activity, possible threat of a salmonella poison, it would be unsafe. In the mid 1970's they totally dropped the project and left a ghost town. It is now owned by the national parks service. Submitted by: Noel Short NYPAPS
